CAPES AND PONCHOS
Ponchos and capes were the top outerwear trend from fashion week. Styles ranged from tailored to Bohemian to futuristic. The label Adam (pictured) even showed a cozy and surprisingly chic blanket-inspired cape. (Snuggie, anyone?)
CRAZY SLEEVES
Designers paid a lot of attention to dressing up arms with contrasting materials. Coats by Rebecca Taylor featured shearling, Christian Siriano and Peter Som (pictured) showed fur, and 3.1 Phillip Lim went with leather. Look for puffy options, as well.
LONGER SKIRTS
Hemlines will be way down for fall. Miniskirts are being replaced with knee- to ankle-length skirts in styles from minimal to glamorous. Marc by Marc Jacobs (pictured) showed easy-to-wear flowing calf-length skirts, while Tory Burch took long Bohemian.
SEE-THROUGH DETAILS
Sheer elements will be strong in fall, particularly when layered. For day or evening wear, wispy fabrics will be paired with leathers and chunky knits. Rebecca Taylor's light-as-air looks (pictured) were truly ephemeral. Many collections also showed lace, which offers a romantic touch.
POLKA DOTS
Although solids will be dominant, you'll find plenty of strong prints, including tons of spots in every size and incarnation. Marc Jacobs based his entire collection on circles, and Diane von Furstenberg (pictured) showed some strong polka-dot patterns.
